History

In 1989, Jim Crockett opened a full service interconnect and phone system company, Telecom Support Services or TSS, in Austin, Texas. Specializing in installing and servicing high quality business voice mail and phone systems at competitive prices, Jim merged TSS with TDI, Telephone Distributors, Inc., in 1995, another family owned company founded in Austin in 1982.

With a common goal and commitment to bringing customers the best quality and value in business communications equipment and service, the combined strengths of both companies helped existing customers as well as new clients needing a business phone system in Austin and the surrounding area. We were able to provide a wider selection in products and exceptional support and technical expertise.

It wasn't just phone systems and voicemail either. We installed basic and sophisticated systems, key systems and PBX's, add on's like music-on-hold, interactive voice response, predictive dialers, call recording and coordinated major structured cabling installation (voice and data cabling).

Moving Forward

In 2005, we became Crockett Communications. Coming from a background in fundraising and non-profit management, Laurie Adams (me) had originally joined the team in 1997 bringing new focus on account development through product demonstrations and emphasis on customer training.

As we continue to grow and evolve through the ceaseless and remarkable advancements in business communications technology, our team remains dedicated to preserving the fundamental values that have characterized our businesses and operations for decades.

Comdial and Vertical

Our primary product line and manufacturer relationship is with Vertical Communications. For many years, we were a Comdial and Mitel 'house', focusing increasingly on Comdial and eventually eliminating the Mitel line, only supporting legacy phone systems already in the field. In 2005, Vertical purchased Comdial and in 2006, bought Vodavi, another major telecom manufacturer and dealer network. LG ('Life's Good') Electronics owns about 20% of Vertical and manufacturers Vertical equipment.

In 2010, Crockett Communications was awarded the prestigious President's Club Award by Vertical Communications at the Vertical Connections convention in Phoenix. Vertical is headquartered in Santa Clara, California with technical support located in Phoenix and international sales in Germany.

Phone System Insight

Crockett Communications commissioned a website back in 2005 and we were very happy with the design, it was very professional. However, it did little but show products and marketing copy - there was little content that would be of real use to our customers and visitors. We've recently decided that with our website, we can further add value to what we do, providing another service in the form of information and insight on phone systems and related areas of interest. This is how and why Crockett Communications created Phone-System-Insight.Com.

About Jim and Laurie

In 2007, Jim and Laurie decided to take their partnership to a new level and were married in Las Vegas that summer. Officiating was Reverend Phil Larimore, a fellow native Texan hailing from Olney, Texas. Reverend Phil came to Vegas a decade prior to work with the staff chaplain at The Riviera Hotel as pastor of Church at The Riviera. He conducts wedding ceremonies and we found him online and made arrangements to be married on the balcony of our suite at the MGM Grand. He was a delight.

Phil acknowledges that he sounds kind of like Dr. Phil of "Oprah fame", but says that Dr. Phil actually sounds like him: "While we both originate from the same area of Texas and have a Southern drawl, I think my voice is a little lower than his. He seems to get high pitched when he gets excited!" Here we are at our Vegas Wedding.

Wedding in Vegas

In 2009, Crockett Communications relocated to offices where the Texas Hill Country opens up just west of Austin and "the Y" at Oak Hill. It isn't all phone systems all the time (just almost!) Jim has two lovely daughters, Heather and Keli; a terrific son and young man, Trey; two wonderful sons in law, Jake and Joe; and five amazing grandkids. We are both so proud of all of them, and of course our fur kids too - Beau, Angel, Xena and Bubba.
